AI Product Descriptions and Voice Input for WooCommerce

The slow part of adding a product is not the price or the stock count. It is writing the description — and doing it well, in a language that is not always your first. My Woo Stores has two features for that: AI Rewrite improves a description you have written with one tap, and Voice Input lets you describe a product out loud and fills the form from what you said. Both are on the Pro + AI plan, in all six supported languages.

What does AI Rewrite actually do?

You write a description — however roughly — and tap rewrite. The AI returns a cleaner, more persuasive version in the language you have the app set to, and you decide whether to keep it. Nothing saves to your store until you accept it.

It is a rewriter, not an inventor. It works from the text you gave it and the product you are editing; it does not research your product, invent specifications, or make claims about materials, dimensions or certifications that you did not put in front of it. If your draft says “silver necklace 45cm”, you get a better-written sentence about a 45cm silver necklace — not a paragraph about ethically sourced artisanal craftsmanship you never claimed.

How does Voice Input work?

Open the product form, tap the microphone, and describe the product the way you would to a colleague: “Gold-plated necklace, 45 centimetres, 89 euros, category jewellery, twelve in stock, comes in gold and silver.”

The audio is transcribed by your device platform’s speech service — Apple’s on iOS, Google’s on Android — and the transcript is sent to the AI provider, which extracts the fields and fills them into the form:

  • Product name
  • Price
  • Description
  • Category
  • Tags
  • Variations — colours, sizes

Then you review it. Every field is a normal, editable form field — nothing is locked, nothing saves on its own. In practice the useful framing is that Voice Input does the typing, not the deciding.

Which languages does it work in?

English, Serbian, German, French, Italian and Hindi — the same six the interface runs in. AI Rewrite writes in the language you have selected, so a German store gets German copy rather than translated English.

One genuine limitation, stated because it will otherwise be discovered the hard way: Apple’s speech recognition does not support Serbian. On iPhone, Serbian dictation falls back to Apple’s Croatian model. In practice this works well for most Serbian speech, and it is the best available option on that platform — but it is Apple’s limitation, it is not something the app can fix, and the app says so in the interface rather than letting you conclude the feature is broken.

Where does your text go?

AI Rewrite sends the description text to Groq, the AI provider, which returns the rewritten version. Voice Input sends audio to your platform’s speech service for transcription, and the resulting transcript to Groq for field extraction. Recorded audio is not retained once transcription completes.

Both are per-action and opt-in: nothing is sent anywhere unless you tap the microphone or the rewrite button. Your orders, revenue figures and customer data are never part of it — the AI features see product text and nothing else. Every service involved is named in the privacy policy.

Who is responsible for what the AI writes?

You are, and the terms of service say so directly. AI output can be inaccurate, generic, or unsuitable for your market, and you are asked to review and approve every rewrite before it saves to your store. That is not boilerplate — it is why the review step exists in the interface rather than a one-tap “rewrite and publish”.

Practically: read it before you accept it. Especially for products where a wrong claim has consequences — anything with legal, nutritional, medical or compatibility statements attached.

Is AI-written product copy bad for SEO?

Google’s position is that it ranks content on whether it is helpful, not on how it was produced. Generated text that is thin, duplicated across two hundred products, and says nothing specific will do badly — but so will thin human-written text. The failure mode is emptiness, not authorship.

Which is why the rewrite model here is the safer one: it improves copy you wrote about a product you actually sell, with details only you know. It is not a bulk generator that produces four hundred descriptions from a spreadsheet of product names. The specifics come from you; the AI is doing the phrasing.

Which plan includes the AI features?

Pro + AI, the top tier. This is worth being precise about, because the site itself previously got it wrong: Pro alone removes advertisements and does not unlock AI Rewrite or Voice Input. Pro + AI includes everything in Pro plus both AI features and priority support.

Everything else in the app — unlimited stores, the full dashboard, order management, product management, push notifications — is on the Free plan. The AI tools are the only capability behind the top tier. See the plan comparison.

Does the official WooCommerce app have this?

No. Neither AI Rewrite nor voice-driven product creation exists in the official WooCommerce mobile app, and they are the clearest functional difference between the two. A direct comparison.

What are the AI features not?

They do not write blog posts, generate images, translate an existing catalogue in bulk, do keyword research, or optimise titles for search. They do not run across your whole catalogue at once — each rewrite is one product, initiated by you.

The scope is deliberately narrow: the two moments when adding a product is genuinely tedious, which are writing the description and typing the form.
